fuck buttons

Before I start, can I just say that you should definitely scroll down the page a bit and check out where Charlie posted Boredoms - Super Roots 9. It's like filling your brain with sherbet and pouring coke into your ear.

We saw Fuck Buttons a week or two ago supporting Parts and Labor, and they're really good. Really really good: much better than noise music made by two young, trendy, good-looking men. Noise is empirically not the realm of the clear-skinned, the laid-back and the hair-moussed: it's the last resort of ugly lonely men, making things that those in the outside world will never get because they're busy cleaning their skin and moussing their hair to really think about what music means. Or something.

I am including myself in this group.

Let's start off with the name: fuck buttons. Is that a demand: fuck buttons! Now! Or an oath: Man, fuck buttons? If the former: er, how? And if the latter: is it born of some kind of anti-digital slant, or a deep allegiance to zips? Already, we find ourselves in a world of mystery and veiled threat.

The music: big, primitivist emotions, yelling, drum patterns and cheap synths driven so absurdly past breaking point that new sounds get created in crackling chips and wires. Granted, it's nothing new, but it's good, and you know what, fuck you, alright? The improbably-named Ben Power and Andrew Hung put the ingredients together with care, feeding elements together in logical ways to create a real sense of development and movement, and I'd like to see you do better, mister "it's nothing new".

You've got some nerve.

Anyway, they've already recorded with Mogwai's John Cummings and they're gonna record their debut LP with Mogwai's John Cummings, and they're going to record with Bob Weston, who's probably seen Steve Albini's willy at some point, like on the tour bus or when they're drunk or something, so he's awesome too.

And so is THIS:

CHRISTMAS SOON

JUST SAYIN

Four random songs by Fuck Buttons - No idea what they're called, cos they came off their Myspace and now they're gone. Embrace the mystery. Then buy their LP when it comes out, cos it's gonna be jizztastic.
