I know I do.
Seriously.
It's pretty much the only thing that keeps me going from day to day. If I don't feel superior to the person standing next to me, I can only assume that I'm the worst person in the world, and start feverishly looking for the nearest object with which to improvise a ill-thought through and messy suicide.
When times get desperate, I can always rely on Ubuweb. If the person standing next to me is espousing on a post-modernist deconstruction of Nabokov, I can whip open my laptop and say loudly "The art is text-sound, as distinct from text-print and text-seen, which is to say that texts must be sounded and thus heard to be "read," in contrast to those that must be printed and thus be seen. Hmm. Yes. I would have to say that I agree."
Ubuweb started off as a repository of concrete and visual poetry, but has since expanded to cover avant-garde visual and sound art. Which is ace. It's got everything from an original recording of Alvin Lucier's I Am Sitting In A Room, in which Lucier reads a short speech, then plays it and re-records it over and over again until all that remains is the natural harmonic resonance of the room that he plays it in, to cut up tapes by William Burroughs, and a film by Yoko Ono of a fly crawling all over a naked chick, and, um, probably some other stuff but I've got to say that quite a lot of my time was taken up by watching a fly crawling all over a naked chick.
yeah, it's all pretentious as hell but there's so much to see and get lost in and a lot of it is fucking fascinating.
Or you could go and listen to more techno.
