this is what a music journalist with a work ethic looks like.

UPDATE: um, and here's the actual acticle. D'oh.

In what I can only assume is some kind of desperate cry for help, Paul Ford over at The Morning News set himself the task of reviewing every single song released by bands to advertise themselves at the 2008 SXSW Super Fun Times Massive Media Circle Jerk (And Barbecue). About half the bands did so, so that's, oh, 763 songs, clocking in at a little over 48 solid hours. And he reviewed every single one of them. I mean, solid effort and everything, man, but seriously, your family love you and just want you to come home, you know?

ANYWAY, benefit to us is, there's a link to every single song, so you can find your 492 next favourite bands right here with a little effort. Or, a bunch of fairly dull bands with guitars and a few pretty good numbers in there.

There's no sensible way to attempt to process the sheer amount of information on offer here: your best bet's just to dive in at random places and pull out a few songs.

Recommended:
Alina Simone: dusty bloozy distorted folk. In Foreign.
Paul Metzger: Avant-garde banjo? Sure, why not. A bit Sir Richard Bishop.
Sleep: Very Sage Francis. Also reminds me of Sleep the band. And that's always good.
Weedeater:Also remind me of Sleep, but in a more meaningful way.

Anyone else find anything good?
