Sunn 0))) - Dømkirke (Live)
I've got to say, on an initial listen, Dømkirke is sounding pretty special even by Sunn 0)))'s standards. It's a recording of a gig they did in a Bergen cathedral, with the guy from Mayhem on vocals and the jewish dude from Earth on church organ and jew trombone. It is, as you can imagine, completely insane. The cathedral's space adds huge reverb to everything – you can only imagine what it would sound like in person – and rather than going over their old pop hits they've written a bunch of new upbeat numbers based on Gregorian chants from the late middle ages. As you do.
Oh, and according to their website: "This recording will be available exclusively on vinyl only. There will not be a digital release (cd or downloads). Pure analog!" Well, ha! This is what you get, people that I admire and respect! Up yours!
